Gold for Black Mambas
19 Dec, 2020
In a nail biting final match, the under 13 Mpumalanga Black Mamba girls beat the East Rand Quaggas to take this year's gold medal. The Quagga girls were the first to score in the fifth minute of the game. It took the Mambas another 13 minutes to find the back of the Quaggas goal, and then only another 3 minutes to score again and take the lead for the first time. That was the score at half time and it stayed at 2-1 to the Mambas for most of the second half. In the 37th minute, a silly mistake from the Mambas was punished by the Quaggas who manged to score a superb equalising goal. The clock seamed to stop as the last 3 minutes of the game saw both teams desperately tring to break the deadlock. There were a few close calls but the time ran out with 2 goals to each team. That meant it was shootout time. Each team would get 3 attempts at beating the other keeper, one on one. If the teams are still drawn after that, the shoot out continues until one teams scores and the other misses. This time, however, we had a winner before the sudden death round... the Mambas scored 1 shootout goal and the Quaggas couldn't. That single goal saw the girls from Mpumalanga crowned the PSi Inland National Champions and Gold Medalists for 2020.
